About This Site

While researching manga and anime and some of my favourite manga/anime series on the computer, I discovered sites that inspired me to make my own site and later learn about computer technology.

The site that inspired me to make my own site was called The Layer, a site to Angelic Layer. Angelic Layer is manga by a group of artists called CLAMP. The Layer was a site that was well built, had lots of content and good graphics. I wanted to make a site similar to the Layer a site that had good content, layout and graphics.

The creation of my site began in September of 2004. My father showed me how to make web pages and how to put images and links on the page. The first page I created was the 'enter' page. The 'enter' page contained a large image like banner and a link to the main page that I was about to make. I created the main page, with links to other pages that I was soon to create and soon after I had multiple pages all with content and some graphics.

I then applied for awards. One web mistress gave me an award and asked if I wanted to know why I won it. I said that I did and so she gave me a short review of my site. She said that I had lots of accurate information and content. She also pointed out the areas on my site that I needed working on. It was very helpful. She said the music on my pages could be irritating to visitors, my splash page was too cluttered, that I had too many graphical and technical problems, so I went to work to fix those problems.

While researching layouts I then came upon a site called Fantasy Forest. Fantasy Forest was a graphic site that had a tutorial section on how to make layouts. I studied the tutorials and attempted to improve my own layout and I researched other sites to learn graphic skills. Most graphic sites I found only had Photoshop tutorials which I didn't have; the graphic editing program I had was the Gimp which has different commands from Photoshop. But it was difficult to use the Gimp especially because I didn't know how to use it well. After I researched some more I was able to find two graphic sites that had Gimp tutorials. The tutorials inspired me to experiment with Gimp and soon after I was able to make an attractive layout image that I was pleased with. What I needed to do next was improve my Hyper Text Markup Language known as html.

I researched for html tutorials and I found many html tutorial sites; some of which contained html codes that would help make my site more interesting and fix it up. My knowledge of html was improving and I taught myself some small html tricks. At the same time I also learned more about css known as Cascading Style Sheets: a program for designing colors.

While my html was improving, my graphic editing wasn't. I would get frustrated with my graphics because I thought them horrible. So I searched for sites that would help improve my graphic editing. The site I found was Xiao Star. Xiao Star's graphics were heaven sent, it triggered me to once again experiment with the Gimp. I taught myself some more neat tricks, some of which helped improve my graphics: how to make images transparent, how to blend images together, how to resize images, add some beautiful effects to images, make small animations, and at the same time learn how to use it properly. Soon my site improved in content, graphics, html and in layout.

Ever since then my site has gone under a lot of changes. I've enjoyed the process very much and hope to continue learning more.

About the Site Name

The name came about when I was trying to find words that started with F. "My Favourite" was chosen because I would be putting things on my site that are "my favourite". (Notice: I'm using the Australian spelling for the word "Favourite". I think in the USA it's written as "Favorite".)
